Established in 2012, the Centre for Social Sciences (CSS), a Centre of Excellence of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, is currently a partner in nine EU-funded projects within the frameworks of both Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe. This amounts to over €1.3 million in funding for excellent and innovative research.

CSS is part of the Eötvös Loránd Research Network, an independent public institution managed by a 13-member Governing Board and accountable to the Hungarian Parliament. CSS is classified as a public budgetary institution, making it eligible not only to submit proposals to any EU funding programme but also to participate in EU-funded projects as a coordinator, partner, or sole beneficiary.

Zsolt Boda, Director General of the Centre for Social Sciences awarded Best Publication of the Year of each institute at CSS. The papers were introduced to colleagues at the general annual meeting on 23 March, 2023.
The Institute for Political Science, Centre for Social Sciences is launching a scholarship programme for BA, MA and PhD students to support scientific work in political science.

The 2020–2023 yearbook of the MILAB project at the Centre for Social Sciences (CSS) has been published. The publication sets on to showcase the various themes and fruition of the most recent research cases conducted within MILAB, Artificial Intelligence National Laboratory.

The new ERC Consolidator Grant project, WelfareExperiences will analyse how different welfare systems can affect people's mental health and chances of returning to work – not just through the amount of money they get, but through the wider experience of claiming. Dorottya Szikra, Institute for Sociology, CSS is senior country lead on Hungary.
CSS MILAB representation at yet another successful event - Octopus Research Tools (ORT) was demonstrated at the AI & Aut Expo by the team of Bence Ságvári.
