New special issue published at Intersections

14 January, 2025

The special issue of Intersections titled Unsettling Gender, Sexuality, and the European East/West Divisions was published.
Guest editors: Maria Mayerchyk, Olga Plakhotnik, and Jennifer Ramme.

This issue critically re-examines the East/West divide paradigm, exploring its limitations and implications for gender and sexuality politics in Europe. The articles delve into debates about modern notions of gender and sexuality shared across Eastern and Western Europe, challenge the concept of “Eastern Europe” itself, and highlight the persistent power dynamics in knowledge production.

This collection seeks to dismantle hierarchies, prioritize solidarity, and amplify voices often overlooked in mainstream scholarship.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the contributors who worked hard to bring this issue to life.
